ABOUT US
The Groundwater Department started as an independent department in the year 1978. Now it is the nodal department in the state for the monitoring and management of the Groundwater. The department is having several wings with different responsibilities. They are Hydrogeology, Engineering, Geophysical, Hydrology, Chemical, and Information Technology.

Resource evaluation, Survey and investigation, Drilling of wells, quality monitoring, development, Technical assistance to Banks, etc forms the routine work of the department. Well siting for individuals and farmers and well construction are two major items of work for which the data generated by the department is being used. A good database is set up as a part of the hydrology project.

Groundwater complex

The New GWD complex at Ambalamukku, Trivandrum. It consists of the data centre, lab (level II+) and headquarters of GWD. It is situated 7 km from Trivandrum railway station and 12 km from Trivandrum airport. The Kowdiar palace of Maharaja of Travancore just 1 km away. Also well connected by road transport system.

Engineering staff

Purpose built piezome constructed to monitor the w fluctuation of the deeper The wells are developed.
Rotary drilling rigs

The department has 7 rotary drilling rigs in operation round the clock in the sedimentaries of Kollam and Alappuzha
